It's kinda like the Invasion of the Body Snatchers - the original 1956 version, of course. Initially there's just these little pods, but you come back a couple of hours later and there's a fully formed human (or alien that looks just like your loved-one).

Maybe I'm being overly dramatic, but the growth of the shiitake mushrooms in our bathroom is 'freaky'. There's just these tiny bumps pushing up out of the top of the inoculated log, but when I return a couple of hours later they're real mushrooms. Go out for the day and who knows what will greet me on my return. Maybe it'll be like The Day of the Triffids - original 1962 version of course (am I giving too much away here?). The shiitakes will grow to gigantic proportions, pull themselves up by the roots and start stalking Vancouver in search of prey!

Alternatively, we'll pull them up by the roots and enjoy them on homemade pizza.

Yeah, I like that version better.
