The official trailer for Netflix’s new food-focused documentary series, Cooked, has just been released. The series is the brainchild of Michael Pollan, best-selling author of The Omnivore’s Dilemma and In Defense of Food, and Oscar-winning filmmaker Alex Gibney, whose credits include Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief and Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room.
The four-part Netflix series explores the transformations of four raw ingredients--fire, water, air, and earth--into dishes made by cooks from all over the world. Pollan starts with fire because that’s where cooking begins.
Each episode circles back to the core idea that cooking is an institution too many of us have lost touch with. It's an act of generosity and love. A rite of passage. It's something we need to reclaim in our everyday lives, which reminds us of one of our favorite Pollan rules: “If it's made by a plant, eat it. If it's made in a plant, don't.”
The 4-episode series premieres Friday, February 19 exclusively on Netflix. We can’t wait to watch.
