Ocktoberfest is raising money for U.S. forests

The Nature Conservancy has partnered with dozens of breweries across the U.S. to put a new spin on Oktoberfest.

It's OktoberForest!

For the entire month of October, they’re raising awareness about the water in our beer, and how much we depend on America’s forests for that water.

Here's the connection between a healthy forest and your brew:

According to the Nature Conservancy, “more than a thousand U.S. breweries are within 10 miles of a Forest Service watershed, and nearly 700 breweries are near a damaged or at-risk watershed.” As of 2015, 65 million National Forest System acres need restoration work. That number has grown in the last few years.

Keenly aware that their livelihood depends on the forests, the breweries that are participating in OktoberForest are hosting educational events, giving “hike or bike your beer” forest tours, collecting donations for forest restoration projects, and more.
