“For Italians, what they eat is the key to their identity. The flavors of Italian food are expressions of the territory they come from and the cooking of each community celebrates the local character that makes it unique. The immense cultural value of the work the Edible Communities perform is that they identify the regional differences that exist here and provide people with a connection to locally grown foods. It’s an important message that wants to be delivered clearly and appealingly. Our congratulations to Edible Communities for meeting that challenge.” - Marcella & Victor Hazan
“The food producers of our community have jewels to offer, and light from Edible Sarasota shines upon them and singles them out .” - Marcella & Victor Hazan

THE CALTONS are the founders of Calton Nutrition, and are among the worlds leading experts on the topics of nutrition and micronutrient deficiency. Their consultancy has been highly sought after by top corporate executives, celebrities, and the social elite, due to their high success rate, working “one on one” with adults and children to achieve weight loss, reduce health conditions and improve overall health. It is their belief that becoming micronutrient sufficient is the first step towards attaining these goals.
In 2005, they began “The Calton Project.” This project became a five year journey of discovery that has lead them to circumnavigate the world, visiting over 100 countries on all seven continents, to study the diet and related health conditions of the modern world on indigenous peoples. Their discoveries concerning diet and micronutrient deficiency are the basis of their soon upcoming book Naked Calories.

A Sarasota resident for about a dozen years, ANDREA DANIELS is in between the ages of legal and a card carrying member of AARP - she is sadly closer to the latter. Andrea is married - no kids - just pets. She is highly suspicious of people who don't like dogs, chocolate, or wine. She works in a creative aspect of technology (yes, there is such a thing) to pay the bills. She loves food - and all (okay most) things local. She is currently writing about six books and finishing none of them. She likes to think she's funny, but mostly she just amuses herself.

Longtime Sarasota resident, SUSAN FILSON, is the author of the popular food blog Sticky, Gooey, Creamy, Chewy. She is a wife, mother, daughter and sister, former professional musician and a lawyer. Ever reinventing herself, Susan currently spends her time as a freelance food writer and photographer, cooking instructor and aspiring chef extraordinaire. She loves to cook, bake, write and most of all, eat. Her love affair with food comes from a long line of wonderful and creative Italian home cooks who didn’t always have a lot, but knew how to make a lot out of what they had.
Susan believes that great food should be accessible to everyone. It doesn’t need to be fussy or complicated, and you don’t have to be a professional chef to create it. All you need are the freshest, best quality ingredients you can find, a few basic kitchen tools and a healthy dose of inspiration.
When she’s not serving up delicious recipes on her own web site, Susan can also be found contributing tasty tidbits on the net at Creative Loafing Sarasota, Creative Loafing Tampa, The Well Fed Network, Divine Caroline, Tastespotting, Foodgawker, Food Blog Alliance and Nibbledish. |
