Welcome to Smart Food, the new podcast hosted by Jane Black. Jane's guest today is Rachel Saunders.
Nothing is hipper this summer than canning and preserving. But Rachel Saunders didn't suddenly start making jam when it became trendy. The founder of Blue Chair Fruit experimented with fruits, flavor combinations, equipment and technique for a decade before launching her company in Oakland in 2008. The results of her research can be found in jars of white guava-meyer lemon marmalade and Early Girl tomato and plum jam and a new cookbook, out in September, "The Blue Chair Jam Cookbook." On this episode of Smart Food, Saunders explains the art of jam making and provides tips for newbies and experts alike.
