High Achievers
Written by Nicole Papantoniou
Bedell Cellars is the home to the only red wine in Eastern America to receive 91 points from Wine Spectator for its 2007 Musee. In addition to its recent high achievement, the 30-year-old sustainably farmed and family owned estate vineyard and winery has won many other awards including being named one of America’s Top 10 Hottest Brands by Wine Business Monthly and one of the Top 25 Tasting Rooms in American by Wine Enthusiast Magazine. Bedell Cellars renovated its tasting room in 2001 to reveal the full character of its historic 1919 barn structure. With its high ceilings, welcoming fireplace and multi-level space that displays art from Owner Michael Lynne’s personal collection, the room hosts daily tastings throughout the year. During the warmer months, guests can venture outside for a picnic on the shaded lawn adjacent to the apple orchard and vineyard.
Bedell Cellars’ Taste series, which consist of red, white and rose wines that feature a specially commissioned art label by Barbara Kruger, are incredibly popular, says CEO Trent Preszler. At Queens Uncorked 2011, Bedell poured the Taste Red, a blend of Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot that contains aromas of blueberries, boysenberries and violets with flavors of beach plums, blackberries and pomegranate, and Taste White, a blend of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Gewürztraminer, Riesling and Viognier that is highlighted by an exotic palette of apple, pear, stone fruit, honeysuckle and minerality flavors.
