For the last 6 years I have run a supper club out of my home. I call it “Sunday Night Dinner” because it began as a dinner party on Sundays, but these days it can happen any night of the week, whenever I’m struck with the desire to try a few recipes and laugh with a few good friends.
I’m not against restaurants; I am pro-cooking. It saves you money, exercises your creativity, makes existing friendships closer and sometimes even helps you foster new ones. (I’ve even seen it work as an e-harmony alternative!) Plus, when you dine at home with friends, you set the rules. If you want to stay up all night drinking amaro and singing along with your ELO album, well, who is there to object? (I have not seen this happen. At least not that I recall.)
Late summer and early fall are probably the most fun times to cook, because the farmers markets are packed with plump fruits and vegetables just dying for you to take them home and show them some love. This menu was conceived to squeeze every last drop out of the late summer harvest, and is simple enough to let the ingredients speak for themselves. I hope you enjoy it as much as my friends did!
THE MENU
Butter Lettuce with Lazy Woman’s Green Goddess Dressing
Chicken Grilled Under a Brick
Summer Succotash
Two Tomato Casserole
