For almost 30 years, Rural Vermont has been supporting and cultivating a healthy rural economy and vibrant communities. Rural Vermont educates, organizes, and advocates for agricultural policies that truly honor and preserve Vermont’s rural heritage. Rural Vermont envisions a community-based food system that enables farmers to make decent and dignified livings while providing everyone access to the locally-produced foods of their choice.
As the only organization 100% dedicated to removing the regulatory barriers that stand between Vermonters and the food they want, Rural Vermont plays a critical and unique role within the local food movement. Because of Rural Vermont, chickens raised and slaughtered on the farm are being sold at nearly every farmers’ market, raw milk is showing up on more kitchen tables, farmers can grow hemp legally in Vermont, and the traditional practice of slaughtering animals on the farms where they’ve been raised has been validated.
Through Rural Vermont’s most recent work, GMO foods will be labeled in 2016 and raw milk can now be delivered at farmers' markets!
