Northwest Mothers Milk Bank: A non-profit organization that collects, pasteurizes and distributes donor human milk for medical needs. Breastmilk increases the health and survival of babies. It’s our first food and the basis for long-term health. Research shows that especially for premature, ill and vulnerable infants, it shortens hospital stays and can prevent serious complications. When a mother’s own milk is not available, donor milk plays a vital role. As they navigate an arena that has been taboo in the United States for decades, the communities behind milk banks are helping to make breast milk, this most fundamental food, more accessible for families who want to give their babies the healthiest starts in life.
