Monday Meal at the Boys & Girls Club of Door County is more than just a meal. Studies have proven that when kids are hungry, they can't learn as well, so we attempt to develop young minds and fill empty tummies. Our focus is educating and exposing kids to whole, healthy foods. Every Monday night, up to five children assist with meal preparation and table setting to provide nourishment for 45 hungry kids. Here they learn kitchen skills and get a hands-on nutrition lesson. Dinner is family style and table manners are taught and practiced. To get desert, our diners must eat half their age in "try-me" bites of anything they haven't tried before or think they don't like. It's all about eating healthy, trying new foods and practicing good table etiquette. Last year we served over 1840 meals. Based on the need, we continue to expand our meal program and this year are holding Monday Meal at the elementary site and Tuesday and Thursday meals at the teen center.
